You can only tell from the number in the bracket that it is newer.
Although this is version 5.70.1 it only shows 5.70.

I will escalate this as a bug to the TBC Team to investigate and will give you feedback as soon as I get any update from them. When using the Surface to surface option it gives a volume as you mentioned. I checked in TBC 5.71 and got same issue, when using the Stockpile/Depression option my Earthworks report also shows no volume. Subject: RE: Stockpile/depression volumes in TBC 5.70
